About NELCE
In the Beginning
North East London Community Engagement [NELCE] was founded as a response to the London InterCommunity Health Centre’s [LIHC] community consultations; an integral aspect of the Northeast London Community Needs and Capacities Inventory 2005-2006. Residents had expressed their desire for a community forum to address their concerns and to make a difference about issues that arise in the community. Hence, Northeast London Community Engagement Initiative, NELCEI, was established in 2006, to pioneer the work of a resident-based, action-oriented working group, specifically for the Northeast London Community. Our Community includes all residents and individuals who live or work within our primary area boundaries of:
- North – Thames River [Kilally Road, Windermere Road]
- South – Oxford Street
- East – Clarke Road
- West – Colborne Street
Having developed a broader base of membership, NELCEI changed its name in 2007 to North East London Community Engagement [NELCE]. Since that time, we have grown our membership, celebrated our strengths, and undertaken several successful initiatives, working with the City of London and area and/or London community partners. The NELCE Council, of which anyone who joins NELCE is a member, governs the structure and work of its Action Area Committees.
